There are two lighthouses on the island of Boca Grande. The main one, Port Boca Grande Lighthouse constructed in 1889, and the Rear Range Lighthouse erected in 1932, which is the one I depicted in this egg tempera painting. Its still in operation, safely guiding watercraft into Charlotte Harbor.
I like how the body and wing of the flying Great Egret echoes the shape of the lighthouse structure.
This painting is a transitional piece as I explore new subject matter and techniques.
The painting is available through my studio gallery.
